ONLINE ONE TO ONE LESSONS

ADHD

One of the great things about online lessons is that your child remains in their familiar environment. This minimises distractions compared to being in a new space, which can be full of unfamiliar and distracting elements. This advantage makes online learning particularly effective for our ADHDers!

When I teach ADHD kids in my home clinic, it can be challenging to keep them focused, although I have special techniques for this. However, online, this challenge is significantly reduced, leading to better engagement and concentration. Many parents are surprised by this!

For online lessons, I often recommend that some kids wear headphones. This not only ensures optimal sound quality but also helps them concentrate on the lesson. It can be very effective, though it isn't always necessary, but definitely worth trying.

I am highly experienced with ADHD. With 20 years in education, 11 of those specifically focused on teaching neurodivergent kids, and personal experience with ADHD within my own family, I understand how ADHD minds work. I tailor my teaching to complement their brains, not oppose them. I create fun and engaging activities to keep your child interested and make sure that we can move while we learn!

AUTISM

Working online with children is not only feasible but can be particularly effective for kids with autism. I have both personal and professional experience working with autistic kids, so I get their needs.

Autistic kids have sensory needs, so a comfortable environment is sometimes vital. Anxieties about meeting new people and going somewhere can also be overwhelming, making online perfect in this case.

Building a quick rapport is crucial. I have taught countless autistic kids online and am a master at establishing a quick rapport.

Since every child is different, our 15-minute free meet and greet might be just what you need if you're unsure about how your child will respond to online learning.

DYSLEXIA/DYSGRAPHIA

Sometimes when kids go to a reading specialist, they can feel nervous and vulnerable. It can be a comforting thing to be able to do this in their own familiar environments—in an Oodie if they wish! If you don't know what an 'Oodie' is—get onto Google and grab yourself one. (Not sponsored!)

The way the dyslexic brain learns to read is unique and requires specialised synthetic structured systematic methods. This is easy to deliver online. It's crucial that dyslexic kids, and indeed all kids, receive high-quality, evidence-based instruction to understand the relationship between sounds and print, ensuring their success and confidence in literacy. With over a decade of experience teaching in this way, I am confident that I can teach 100% of kids to read and spell with confidence and success no matter if they are in person or online.

The best way to know if online lessons are right for your child is to give them a try! 

The way we set up online lessons replicates the face to face lesson. 

To ensure the best learning experience, we prefer our kids to work on laptops. This way we can replicate the face to face environment by ensuring that we can see the child's 'desk space' to have a full view of their writing and work. All we have to do is 'dip the lid' to see everything, just as we would in 'real-life'. Laptops are also more functional with the games that we use to practice our skills. You are welcome to discuss other options with us but we need do need to be able to easily see your child's desk space in front of them. 

To log into our online platform (Zoom) you will get a link. You will have you child set up at a table. 

The materials that you will need will be ready to go (whiteboard, markers, books, pencils & eraser) and we will complete a lesson, just as we would if your child was sitting opposite us. 

We have cool games and activities that we can play online to consolidate and review learned concepts so this is particularly fun for kids. 

You just need to make sure that your child is in a quiet room with minimal distractions and that you have a suitable internet connection and we are good to go!

You will get lesson notes sent to you after each lesson if we don't get a chance to chat! 

The more consolidation of learnt concepts that your child has - the better. That's not rocket science! It's neurological science. 

Therefore we will offer you home tasks to do and support you with how to do these at home. 

If you can't and you feel completely overwhelmed, let us know! We will work with you. 

Most kids see us once a week for 45 minutes at a time. 

Some kids who are particularly behind or having significant difficulties, may need more support. 

During the Queensland state academic term. This is usually a ten week term.

If you enrol part way through the term, you only pay for the lessons that are left in that term. We also have payment plans to make life easier for you. 

No sessions are run on public holidays that are based in Queensland, Australia. 

At this stage we are offering online one to one sessions during school hours.

We run one to one sessions during school hours because kids are at their best learning capacity during the day, particularly in the morning. Kids, particularly those who struggle with literacy, are tired after school and one to one sessions are intensive. After school sessions are not conducive to the best results and outcome for the child in this setting. We have seen the results that we get during the day, compared to afterschool and we do what works best for our kids.
