How does it work?
We begin with an initial appointment online or in person to assess your child’s current literacy skills.
Â
Our Functional Literacy Assessment is a practical screening tool that helps us understand your child’s learning profile. It identifies what’s holding them back, highlights areas of need, and guides us in creating a clear plan to build their confidence and get their reading and spelling on track.
What we assess:
âś“
Gaps that are holding them back.
âś“
Phonological and phonemic awareness -essential pre-literacy skills.
âś“
Letter-to-sound knowledgeÂ
âś“
Reading ability compared to children of the same age.
âś“
Spelling ability compared to children of the same age.
What’s Included in the Assessment:
-
- 45 - 60 minutes of one to one work with your child and our All Kids Can specialist.
-
A series of evidence-based assessments to measure your child’s literacy skills against Australian benchmarks.
-
A clear, practical 3–4 page written report explaining all results in plain language, no jargon.
-
Recommended goals and a tailored plan outlining key areas to focus on for improving reading and spelling.
-
A chance to discuss the results with us, so you feel confident about where your child is at and what steps to take next.
